My 2 cents about College – Is it really worth it?

If you’re wondering right now whether you should go to college or not, chances are you already know the answer to this and you only need support to justify it. But if you ask me, College Education does not equate to success and it should not be looked at as a requirement in order to establish yourself.

Do you aspire to become a lawyer? Help people as a doctor? Then a College Education is important since these professions require it. However, if you’re not sure about your career then I suggest you start HOLDING OFF. Most people, including myself, ended up paying thousands of dollars to get an education where at the end of the day it didn’t matter with what I am doing today.

You’re basically spending thousands of dollars and hoping that a College degree will ultimately lead you to figuring out your career path. No, it doesn’t! It just leads you into DEBT. Education does NOT equate to SUCCESS. Your HUSTLE does.

If you don’t know what you want and if you’ve yet to know who you want to be, focus on empowering yourself and discovering your potential. Focus on you. To my eyes, College is a corrupt system that was designed to brain wash the majority into thinking that it’s a necessity in order to succeed… Rather it eats away your bank account in which you are stuck paying back for many years to come.

My advice to you, is to take that college fund/savings and use it to monetize your dreams as early as now.

Learning is not only earned within the four walls of the university and in the pages of your textbooks. The most important learning that will stick with you for the rest of your life come from experiences, mistakes and mentors.

Today’s society compared to what it was 15 years ago is completely different. You can self-educate yourself simply by searching for topics on Google. Don’t waste your years sitting behind school tables when you have the potential to start building an enterprise at such a young age.

I sit back and think of the amount of time I spent in the library, office hours, in-class, summer-days just to learn something that I barely even apply today. Just to give you a QUICK background, I am not just some Joe-Schmo without an education preaching that College is complete bullsh*t. I doubled Major in Mathematics & Statistics, ALMOST tripled Major with Economics… I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree with over a 3.0 GPA.

Let’s make this clear, I am not just some bitter individual that didn’t receive an education. I did. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fucking awesome to tell people about my work ethic, degree, where I went to School etc… But was it worth 30k+ in student loans? (Probably a lot more these days then it was when I graduated) ABSOLUTELY NOT!
I spent countless hours in the Library, office hours, and in-class for what? My original dream was to end up in a Quantitative role in a top Fortune 500 Bank… Because that’s what “Dad” told me was the right thing to do. Guess what, the economy back in 2009 was a shit show and I didn’t receive the job that I THOUGHT I wanted.

Thank god that happened or else I may have been stuck in a role that I would “pretend” that I LOVED to do. Who the hell loves working at a financial institution punching in numbers for other investors? Like, really man? Who the hell are you Bullshitting? Not me. I still ended up in an Investment Bank earning 60-70k my first year out of College. But did I get what I originally wanted? Was it even worth it? NO, NO, and NO. Even if I did get the job, I would of still wrote this article. Because it took me awhile to understand what the fuck is going on in today’s society.

We LIVE in a complete different world than our parents. You can start a MULTI MILLION-dollar business with ZERO capital because of the technology we have today compared to 10 years ago. Social Media + The Internet has changed the game of Business, Education, and your everyday lifestyle.

Don’t be fooled by the system that tells you that you need an education to succeed. I say f*ck the system, work your ass off, and do what you love to do. Focus on building a better self-every day to get you one step closer than yesterday. That’s what I am doing.
